Join us as we grow our community, and kick off another year of wonderful restoration efforts at Shaw Prairie and Woods! Immerse yourself in the beauty of local nature and welcome fall with a volunteer opportunity to work on one of the finest prairies in Illinois, Shaw Prairie. Join us to learn about the restoration of this high-quality ecological site with a group of steward volunteers. Activities will include cutting brush that threatens to overtake the prairie, as well as plant identification and gathering of ripe seeds. At 12:00 PM we will break to enjoy snacks and conversation by the bonfire. We welcome individuals, groups, and families with children so please let us know if you’re planning to attend. Long sleeves, long pants, and boots are recommended and please bring your own water. This annual event is proudly supported by Lake Forest Open Lands, the Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves, and the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission. The volunteer group meets weekly so if you’re unable to make this event but would still like to join us, stay tuned here for future opportunities.
