Prairies Need People

Prairies are ancient, highly diverse, and beautifully complex ecosystems. And they need people to survive.

Shaw Prairie Stewards are volunteers devoted to ecological restoration at Shaw Prairie, which is considered one of the finest remnant prairies in Illinois. In collaboration with Lake Forest Open Lands and Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves, we work to restore, protect, and maintain this precious prairie, along with the neighboring woods, savanna, and wetlands that comprise Skokie River Nature Preserve.
