The Shaw Prairie Stewards were formed one year ago, on October 2, 2021. We have an important job – restoring eco-health to one of the Midwest’s finest prairies (and associated oak savanna and woodland). Since then we’ve learned about the ecological communities and got right to work cutting and burning invasive brush and gathering prairie seeds.
This friendly community now has a few expert-trained leaders and regular volunteers – but the mission needs more! Like to explore joining in some amazing work?
On October 22, we kick off another year - it’s a time to grow the human community. Our vision is an ever dynamic and vibrant group of stewardship volunteers that continue to take good care of the prairie, savanna, woods and wetlands.
Biodiversity needs us! We’re irreplaceable for a thriving future for this Illinois Nature Preserve – proudly owned by Lake Forest Open Lands Association.
Come solo or with friends, neighbors, co-workers, family.
Please let us know you’re planning to come so we may prepare well.
